National Commemorations

There are three National Commemorations, either run by or attended by Óglaigh Náisiúnta Na hÉireann Teoranta, each year. They are:

La Na bhFiann: ONET's National day of Commemoration is held  each year and the event commences with a parade to Arbour Hill church followed by the reading of the proclamation and a wreath laying ceremony at the burial site of the 1916 memorial (Organised by ONET).

This year the commemorations will take place on Sunday the 4th of April with a parade forming up outside the Company's HQ, Brú na bhFiann, in

North King Street, Dublin

The National Day of Commemoration takes place in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on the nearest Sunday to 11th July (the date of the signing of the truce in the war of independence, 1921). This Commemoration is run by the Government of Ireland and ONET members are officially invited to the ceremonies.

 

The Niemba Ambush Remembrance in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, on the nearest Saturday to the actual date of that ambush (8th Nov) in the Congo. (Organised by ONET). The 2010 Niemba Commemoration, which  is commemorates 50 years since the ambush, is planned to take place on Saturday the 6th of November at 13.40 hrs(assembly)in Cathal Brugha Bks, followed by a mass at 14.00 hrs in St. Mary's Church, Rathmines.  The Mass will be followed by  a wreath laying ceremony in Cathal Brugha Bks. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the dining complex.
